Home Energy Efficiency 101 Workshops

The Sustainability Program has partnered with Water Services and local businesses to provide residents with a FREE Home Energy Efficiency 101 Kit which includes weatherstripping, caulking, low-flow shower heads and aerators, efficient lighting, and much more.

Residents must attend a free informational workshop to learn how to safely and effectively make energy efficiency upgrades in order to receive a free kit.

Home Energy Efficiency Tips


The Sustainability Section provides supportive programming to help Flagstaff residents lower utility bills, become more energy efficient, reduce energy consumption, and increase overall awareness of energy use.

The below Do it Yourself (DIY) tutorials are designed to assist residents in completing simple home improvement measures that will help reduce energy costs. Each tutorial provides a list of the tools and materials needed, basic instructions, and general information regarding the improvement. In most cases, energy efficiency improvements pay for themselves over time because you will be paying for less wasted energy year after year!

Energy Meter Lending Program

  • Flagstaff Public Libraries now offer portable energy meters for check out - it's as easy as checking out a book!
  • Energy meters are designed to easily measure how much electricity is used by plug-in appliances at home or at work.
  • By simply unplugging your appliances and electronics (e.g. toaster, coffee pot, DVD player) when not in use, can save you energy and money.
  • Energy meters are easy to use; simply plug the meter into an outlet and then plug your appliance or small electronic item into the meter. You will then instantly see how much electricity is being used and you can calculate the cost associated with the specific appliance or electronic. Check out an energy meter today:
